It seems that every time I go to a mega gym in Dallas the main exercise I see the members performing are Bicep Curls. Typically Concentration Curls seem to be the most common favorite.
I have to admit, I almost always find this very amusing...and yet a little sad at the same time. These people are coming to the gym and are putting in honest effort and yet they are wasting it on an exercise that is going to produce close to zero results.
Its not that concentration curls have no value whatsoever, its just that exercises such as those are meant to be refining movements for an individual who already has a VERY well developed physique that now only needs to be sculpted down and refined to the last degree. This type of exercise burns very few calories, works a minimal number of muscles and in the majority of people, produces little o no results.
If you are wanting to work your biceps, want to burn some calories, gain some functional strength, and maybe even get stronger for your body size, you would be much better off doing some assisted chin-ups. Most gyms have assisted chin-up dip towers that are great for total body functional exercises such as this.
