Should you use a Friend as your Dallas Personal Trainer
Often people simply go to the gym with a friend who "knows more than they do". Theoretically this seems like a good idea but often it turns out to be the blind leading the blind. Unfortunately exercise, fitness, and nutrition are some of those areas of life where a little bit of knowledge can be dangerous.
Most of the common accepted wisdom in the fitness industry is nothing but baloney. Magazines are filled with articles that further encourage widely beleived misconceptions and most people don't get anything from magazines except a list of nutritional supplements that they supposedly "need" to get results and the physique they've always wanted.
Anyway, the point is that when a person lets a friends be their personal trainer, usually they just have them do the workouts they themselves are doing. Many times these routines aren't very effective and the exercise technique that they use is sloppy.
BUT...even if the quality of the workout program is good AND the exercise technique is good, it is still unlikely that the two individuals actually have the same health and fitness goals which means the workout program is NOT the best workout for the new exerciser to be doing.
Nothing is a more effective motivator than results are and results don't typically happen accidentally. If you go workout with your "expert" friend and let them be your Dallas "personal trainer", more than likely you won't get very good results (if any at all) and you will get discouraged and less likely to stick with the new habit of exercising, eating healthy, etc.
It may cost a little bit of money, but there are some cases in life where its worthwhile to work with a professional...at least for a little while. Personal Training is one of those cases. This is your body we're talking about. You only get one....and its up to you to take care of it. Don't throw that responsibility at your workout fanatic friend by making them your Dallas personal trainer.
