Seated Calf Raise
Dallas Personal Trainer - A classic calf exercise that has been used by bodybuilders for years to develop the Soleus muscle (the muscle underneath the more visible Gastrocnemius muscle. It is currently not the favorite that it used to be among personal trainers because of the new functional exercise trend in the fitness world, however its ability to create flxibility in the Soleus muscle can greatly increase the ability of people to perform a full proper squat movement safely which is very valuable and a rare skill in today's fitness world.
Sit down on the seated calf machine, put your feet on the block on the ball of your foot and your toes. Position your lower thighs (right above the knee) under the pads so that your shins are sitting straight upright. Lift the weight up and use the lever to release the weight stopper. Lower the weight down until your calves get a full stretch, then smoothly press your toes into the block by contracting your calf muscles to lift the weight back up. Lift up on the toes as high as possible making sure to get a full tight contraction in the calf muscles.
