Dallas Personal Trainer - The most important shoulder movement by far and yet it is almost never performed correctly and in fact rarely utilized by Dallas personal trainers.
We recommend that these be performed in a standing position because if they are performed in a seated position then it is not possible to achieve the full extensions of the shoulder joint at the top of the movement.
Start with a barbell at shoulder level, and a grip 2-3 inches outside shoulder width (depending on the width of your shoulder girdle and what feels comfortable to you). Press the bar upward with your shoulders until your shoulder and elbow joints completely lock out at the top. The bar should move slightly backward over your head as you press it up. At the top of the movement, you should feel a tight muscle contraction all the way across the back of your shoulder girdle. Lower the bar under control and begin the next rep.
