Insure that Your Program is Maximally Effective

When it comes down to it, exercise is nothing more than intentional, planned, controlled stress that is placed on the body with a specific adaptation in mind.
When a person first starts exercising, they often make rapid progress because their body is attempting to adapt to the newly introduced stress. But soon the adaptation is complete and the body becomes comfortable with the exercise routine. Homeostasis is resumed at the new activity level, and the workout becomes ineffective. This is where their rapid progress comes to a screeching halt.
Many people know this as a “plateau.” Anyone who has ever worked out consistently for at least several months has experienced this phenomenon at some point. This is often where people get injured trying to force more progress or burn themselves out and quit. If they don’t quit, they typically at least lose their drive and workout becomes just another boring chore. Exercising begins to feel like a waste of time, is no longer a priority, and usually it eventually slips out of their schedule altogether. Often, men who are training to gain muscle resort to taking anabolic steroids at this point.
However, there is no reason that anyone should have to give in to this defeating scenario! This is where the real progress starts! This is where good program design becomes absolutely essential and that is exactly why most people stop making progress at this point. They unknowingly choose to stop their progress by allowing their body to resume homeostasis instead of staying one step ahead by applying quality exercise science to their training plan. Specific results require specific input, which requires a specific plan created by someone competent in the field of exercise science. Many people will hire an architect to create building plans, hire a plumber to fix a leak, and go to a financial planner to develop an investing plan and yet refuse to seek for help in designing their exercise program. Instead they go to the gym daily and put an hour of their best effort into performing a poorly designed, non-personalized program that gets them little or no results.
In order for any task to be effective it requires two things:
1. Goal specific, intelligent planning
2. 100% effort in following through with the plan
Good planning requires someone who is capable of determining what specific actions will bring about the specific desired results. In order to make money in the stock market one doesn’t just throw their hard earned money into the market, just as someone wanting specific results from their time spent exercising shouldn’t just throw their effort into the gym.
In order to make maximum progress and keep making progress, a controlled adaptation process must continue indefinitely, which we means we must have a specific plan and we must stay one step ahead of the body at all times, always inducing it to do exactly what we want it to. The mind has the capability to be the master of the body and we aim to take full advantage of that potential by creating precisely body that you want through careful specific planning.
100% effort in following through with the plan is the part that’s up to you. It doesn’t matter how great a plan of action is, if it is not carried out, precisely. Follow the plan exactly, do your absolute best everyday, and then reap the rewards.
