Bag Jumps
Dallas Personal Trainer - Another valuable exercise that is a favorite for many athletics coaches that may be overlooked by an average personal trainer.
These are called bag jumps because they are traditionally done over a bag or a football tackling dummy. They can be done over any object, however. Although these are not an exercise very commonly used by Dallas personal trainers, athletics coaches typically utilize them alot because they promote overall athleticism, speed, endurance, agility, and quickness.
Place an object on the ground, such as a barbell and stand with it by your side. Quickly hop back and forth over the object, attempting to immediately bounce off of the ground into the next jump with each landing.
At first, an object with a height of 1 inch may be sufficient, and even challenging, but over time as your capability increases you should be able to steadily move up until you are using an object at least 1 foot tall and 1 foot wide. Typically when we are in with a personal training client in person, we can determine how quickly to progress the client regarding the height of the object. However, since you are working on your own, you must personally determine when you are ready to make a move to a taller or wider object. Your program will simply tell you to do bag jumps... you decide the size of the object that you jump over. An easy way to steadily move up in height is to start with an barbell with no weights on the ends, then move up to a barbell with 2.5 lb. plates on each side, then 5 lb. plates, and so forth. This will move the height up about an inch at a time.
As always, we do not recommend performing any exercise without the supervision of a highly qualified Dallas personal trainer. This exercise description is for informational purposes only. Consult your doctor before attempting any workout program or attempting this exercise or any other exercise on this website.
